Pakistan Emergency Travel Document (ETD)

An Emergency Travel Document is a temporary single-journey travel document issued by Pakistan embassies when a full passport cannot be issued in time for urgent travel.

When is an ETD Issued?

  • Your passport has been lost or stolen and you need to travel urgently
  • Your passport has expired and you cannot wait for a renewal
  • Your passport is damaged beyond use
  • You need to travel for a medical emergency or family bereavement
  • You are being deported or repatriated

How to Apply

  1. Contact your nearest Pakistan embassy and explain the emergency
  2. If your passport was lost/stolen, obtain a police report first
  3. Visit the embassy with: police report (if applicable), any available ID (NICOP, CNIC, driving licence), two passport photographs, proof of travel need (flight booking, hospital letter, death certificate), and the ETD fee
  4. The embassy will verify your identity through NADRA records
  5. Once verified, the ETD is prepared and issued (usually within 24 hours)

After Arriving in Pakistan

Once you arrive in Pakistan using an ETD, you must apply for a new passport at a Regional Passport Office before you can travel internationally again. The ETD is surrendered at Pakistan immigration upon arrival. To return abroad, you will need a full passport, which can be obtained on urgent processing in Pakistan (1 week or less).
