Everything you need for a smooth departure from Islamabad International Airport. Check-in times, security procedures, duty-free shopping, lounges, and boarding.
Departure Process
- Check-in: International check-in counters open 3 hours before departure. Online check-in available with most airlines. Self-check-in kiosks available.
- Security screening: Bag scan and body scan. Liquids must be under 100ml in a clear bag. Laptops out of bags.
- Immigration/Passport control: Have your passport and boarding pass ready. Emigration check for Pakistani workers going abroad (OEC required).
- Duty-free & shopping: Good selection of duty-free perfumes, electronics, and Pakistani handicrafts after security.
- Lounges: CIP Lounge (paid access ~$25), airline business lounges. Priority Pass accepted at some lounges.
- Gates: Check screens for gate assignments. Allow 15 minutes to walk to remote gates.
Pakistan Departure Rules
- Emigration check: If you are a Pakistani citizen going abroad for work, you must present your Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) at the emigration counter.
- Currency limits: You can carry up to $10,000 or equivalent without declaration. Above this, you must declare to customs.
- Prohibited exports: Antiques over 100 years old, certain gemstones without documentation, wildlife products.
- Airport tax: Usually included in your ticket price. Verify before travel.
