Arrival Process at Karachi Airport
- Immigration: Jinnah International has separate queues for Pakistani nationals, Diplomatic/Crew, and Foreign passport holders. Present passport, visa, and completed immigration form. Processing takes 15-45 minutes during busy periods, particularly when multiple Gulf flights arrive simultaneously.
- Visa on Arrival / E-Visa: E-visa holders show the printed confirmation. Visa on arrival available at a dedicated counter for eligible nationalities. Requirements: passport (6+ months validity), return ticket, hotel booking, and funds. Fees typically $25-100 USD cash.
- Baggage claim: Collect luggage from the designated carousel. Trolleys are free. Report any issues to your airline desk before leaving the baggage area.
- Customs: Green channel for nothing to declare, Red channel for declarable items. Duty-free allowance: 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars, up to $10,000 USD cash without declaration. Alcohol is prohibited in Pakistan.
- Arrivals hall: SIM card kiosks (Jazz, Zong, Telenor, Ufone), currency exchange counters, ATMs, and transport available immediately outside the customs exit in the new Jinnah Terminal.
Arrival Tips
- SIM card: Buy Jazz, Zong, Telenor, or Ufone prepaid SIM in the arrivals hall. PKR 500-1,000 with 10-30GB data. Passport required for registration. Jazz and Zong have the best 4G coverage in Sindh. Activation takes 15-30 minutes.
- Currency exchange: Exchange counters accept USD, GBP, EUR, AED, and SAR. Airport rates are reasonable. Exchange enough for immediate transport (PKR 2,000-5,000). Better rates available at Bolton Market and Clifton exchange shops in the city.
- ATMs: HBL, Meezan Bank, UBL, and MCB ATMs in the arrivals area. International Visa and Mastercard accepted.
- Transport: Pre-paid taxi to Clifton/DHA (PKR 1,500-2,500), Saddar (PKR 1,000-1,500). Careem and InDriver apps work well in Karachi (PKR 800-2,000). Avoid unlicensed taxis. The airport is centrally located, 15km from the main commercial areas.
- Weather: Karachi is hot and humid most of the year (30-40°C). December-February is pleasant (15-25°C). Monsoon rains in July-August can cause flooding and traffic disruption.
