Pakistan Passport Types 2026 -- Complete Guide

Pakistan issues four categories of passport through the Directorate General of Immigration & Passports (DGIP). Since August 2023, all new passports are biometric e-passports with embedded microchips.

  • 36 pages: Standard for regular travellers
  • 72 pages: For frequent travellers with many visa stamps
  • 100 pages: For very frequent travellers or business professionals

  • 5 years: Available for all age groups
  • 10 years: Available for adults only

Children under 18 can only get 5-year passports.

E-Passport (Biometric) Features

Since August 16, 2023, all new Pakistan passports are biometric e-passports featuring:

  • Contactless embedded microchip with biometric data (fingerprints, facial photograph)
  • Polycarbonate data page with laser-engraved photograph
  • Machine-readable zone (MRZ) compliant with ICAO 9303
  • Approximately 29 advanced security features (microtext, holograms, UV/IR elements, relief printing)
  • QR codes for verification
  • Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) encryption
Existing Machine Readable Passports (MRP) remain valid until their printed expiry date. No need to replace early -- you will receive an e-passport on next renewal.

All fees include Rs 1,000 service charge. At embassies abroad, a consular surcharge applies and fees are charged in local currency.
